Gandia Blasco is a Spanish outdoor furniture maker and its New York showroom is at 52 Greene Street in the SoHo design district, at street level with windows.
Three brands share the floor and they do different jobs. Gandia Blasco is the outdoor furniture and the pergolas, built in powder coated aluminum and rope and designed to sit outside permanently rather than to be brought in. GAN is the textile arm, rugs and soft pieces made by hand in India from natural and recycled fibre. DIABLA is the lighter range, home pieces and accessories.
The outdoor work is the reason a New York designer goes. Terrace and roof furniture in this city has to survive a winter it cannot be moved out of, and most of what looks right in a photograph is teak that greys or steel that rusts at the welds. Aluminium frames with rope or outdoor textile do neither, and seeing the actual section and the actual weave answers the durability question that a rendering never does.
Outdoor rated and indoor rugs look similar on a screen and feel nothing alike, and a client choosing for a terrace needs to know which one they are standing on.
The showroom is at street level and open to the public on weekdays from 9:30 to 6. No appointment is needed.
Measure the terrace access before specifying a pergola or a large sectional. The pieces are built to stay outside, which means they have to get outside first, and a roof terrace reached by a passenger lift and a stair sets the largest single element that can be delivered. Settle that with the showroom before the layout is drawn rather than after the crane quote arrives.
