One Wall Street was designed by Ralph Walker of Voorhees, Gmelin and Walker and completed in 1931, with a south tower added in 1963. The limestone front is worked into shallow inward curving bays with fluting run up them, so the wall reads as folded rather than flat.

The residential conversion by SLCE Architects took both towers back to the exterior walls and the frame and moved the cores from the perimeter into the middle of the plan. That is the most consequential thing about the building as it now stands. With the core central the perimeter runs continuous, and apartments follow an outside wall instead of stopping at a stair or a lift shaft.

The fluting is the other fact to plan around. The inside face of the exterior wall follows those curves, so reveals vary across a single room and anything fitted tight against that wall is made for the profile rather than cut square.
