515 Park Avenue was designed by Frank Williams and Associates and completed in 1998, a forty three storey tower of limestone, cast stone and beige brick.

It was drawn deliberately in the manner of the pre-war Park and Fifth Avenue houses, and the borrowing is structural rather than decorative. The plans are large, the windows are punched rather than continuous, and the ceilings are high, reaching around eleven and a half feet in the penthouse.

That makes it behave more like its pre-war neighbours than like the glass towers of its own decade. There is solid wall between openings, so storage and millwork can sit against an outside wall, and the acoustic and thermal work is not thrown onto soft furnishings alone.

The difference from a genuine pre-war building is that the structure is modern. Cross walls are not all masonry and the services were laid out in 1998 rather than adapted from 1926, so there is more freedom to move a partition than the appearance suggests.
