607 Hudson Street was built in 1906 to a design by Ralph S. Townsend as a residence for young working women, Georgian in red brick, and converted in 2013 by FLANK into ten apartments.

The conversion kept the brick front and a good deal of the original detail. What it added at the centre is a double height entrance foyer with a white Carrara stair rising through it, and the ceiling there runs to about thirty feet.

The parlour floor carries ceilings around twelve feet six. That is the useful number for most of the building, and it is tall enough that joinery and window treatments drawn to a standard apartment scale will read as undersized.

Ten apartments in a building of this size means generous floor areas and few neighbours to each floor, and the masonry structure gives solid wall between the openings. The building faces Abingdon Square, so the principal rooms look onto the park rather than onto a street wall opposite.
