Poliform trades from the sixth floor of the A&D Building at 150 East 58th Street. The building is open to the public on weekdays and so is this showroom. The Madison Avenue showroom is closed while it is expanded, and this is the address a person can visit today.

What is on the floor is the part of the house that has to be planned rather than bought. Kitchens, walk in closets and wardrobe systems, with the living and bedroom furniture alongside them. Poliform sells systems more than pieces, and the showroom keeps designers as well as sales staff to work out custom solutions, which is the correct arrangement for a range where most of the value is in the fit.

Wardrobes are the reason a New York designer comes. Prewar apartments have deep irregular bedrooms and almost no built in storage, and a Poliform system planned properly turns an awkward wall into the storage the apartment never had. The alternative, joinery built on site, costs more and takes longer.

Kitchens sit in the same building as Gaggenau and Fantini, two floors apart, so a kitchen specification can be resolved across appliances, fittings and cabinetry in one morning.

Bring the survey and the alteration agreement. Poliform systems are planned to the millimetre against a wall, and a prewar wall is rarely straight, so the scribe allowance and the service positions decide the design. Have those measured before the first appointment rather than after the layout is drawn.
