Ressource is a French paint and wallpaper house with a suite in the D&D Building at 979 Third Avenue, which is open to the public, and buying requires a trade account. It has been publishing colour since 1946 and makes its paint in Provence.

What it carries is depth of range rather than a chart. Ressource puts its own count at more than 600 shades, over 250 wallpaper patterns and more than 120 chalk and plaster finishes, and the lime in the chalk products comes from Provence. The paints are low VOC, which matters on a job where a client is moving in behind the decorator rather than months later.

The designer collections are the part that does not exist elsewhere. Maison Sarah Lavoine, Antoinette Poisson, Ananbô, Heju and Caravane each carry their own palettes, and the house publishes an Yves Klein shade drawn from International Klein Blue.

Colour consultation is offered in the showroom, at the client's home or over video, along with three dimensional visualisation, and the house runs colour training for professionals. That is a different service model from a paint counter and it is the reason to go in person.

Chalk and plaster finishes are the reason to bring a sample board rather than a fan deck. They change with the light and the substrate in a way a flat emulsion does not, and a colour approved on a card under showroom lighting can read as a different colour on a wall in a north facing room. Get a board made up in the actual finish and leave it in the room for a day before the decorator is ordered.
