The Integrity of Illusion: Balancing Civic History and Spatial Wellness at 63-65 Charles Street

On September 1, 2026, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously approved (9-0) Docket LPC 27-01049, permitting the structural combination of the 1866 sister rowhouses at 63-65 Charles Street. The decision allows complete interior party wall removal and a 12-foot cellar excavation, provided the developer maintains a vertical historic two-building delineation on the restored front and expanded rear facades.
